The Tucker Community Foundation invites the public to learn more about Davis Health System Foundation’s Transforming Care TogethER Campaign at a community presentation to be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday, December 15 at the Tuscan Grill Event Center, 106 Walnut Street in Parsons. Transforming Care TogethER is a $2.5 million investment in innovative emergency services, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, and the recruitment and retention of expert emergency care providers at Davis Medical Center.
“This is a unique opportunity to completely transform the patient experience in the Emergency Department at Davis Medical Center,” explains Emergency Physician Dr. John Logar. “Some 30,000 patients visit the DMC Emergency Room each year. The current facility is over 20 years old and was not designed for today’s healthcare delivery. It is too small and lacks privacy, which slows the time in which patients can be seen and reduces their satisfaction. Our community and region deserve a modern emergency department that provides both convenient and efficient access to quality care.”
A dedicated, interdisciplinary task force is studying emergency department pathways from the point of entry to the patient being discharged to home, admitted to Davis Medical Center or transferred to another care provider. This team includes an emergency room nurse, patient registrar, and unit secretary, as well as an inpatient nurse, ICU nurse, radiology technician and laboratory technician. Davis Health System Process Excellence Lead Elizabeth Teets noted, “Those closest to the work itself are reviewing parking accessibility, emergency department entrances, patient registration, clinical triage, emergency services, and care transitions –with the dual goals of reducing patient wait time and improving clinical outcomes.” Davis Health System President & CEO Vance Jackson added, “We must redefine best practices and make sure the proper processes to support these practices are in place before we begin construction. Space design will support these process improvements and improve flow for patients, staff, and physicians.”
“With the addition of more beds and new equipment, we will be able to handle a larger volume of patients in a quicker period of time, and that’s always in everybody’s best interest,” says Emergency Physician Dr. Susan Bobes. This project will increase patient-facing time for all emergency care providers by standardizing administrative and support services.
The Transforming Care TogethER Campaign is about much more than just adding private rooms and making cosmetic improvements to the DMC Emergency Department. In addition to its goal of raising $2 million in community contributions, DMC will invest an additional $500,000 in support of key initiatives, including:
Process Improvement – Improved patient pathways will shorten wait times for both emergency and non-emergency patients through innovative programs such as the FastTrack protocol;
Optimal staffing – Enhanced recruitment, innovative staffing models, and training will enhance patient satisfaction, quality of care, and efficiency; and,
Facility Renovation and Expansion — The new Emergency Department will include 60% more space, including:
At least 20 private exam and treatment rooms
2 designated trauma bays to handle the most critical patients
Updated medical equipment and technology throughout the Emergency Department
A new, comfortable waiting area for families and guests
“This $2.5 million, multi-year campaign will enable us to revolutionize Emergency Department processes and facilities, meet and exceed the expectations of patients and their families, and ensure that today’s challenges don’t become tomorrow’s tragedies,” notes Mike Bell, Davis Health System Foundation Director.
