Philip Dale Oaster, age 79 years, a resident of the Mackeyville Community, Hambleton, WV departed this life Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, WV.
He was born Thursday, October 10, 1940 at Parsons, WV, a son of the late Melvin Peter and Gredal Geraldine Pennington Oaster. On January 16, 1966 at Red House, MD, he was married to the former Sandra Charlene Pennington, who preceded him in death December 1, 2015. They celebrated forty-nine years of marriage.
Surviving are one son, Philip Todd Oaster of Hambleton; one sister-in-law, Lana Oaster of Hambleton; his extended family, Cynthia Helmick and children, Buck and wife Kylie Helmick, Angiy and husband Justin Browning; and the joys of his life his granddaughters, Izabella, Addalyn, Kennedy and Carter, all of Parsons; niece, April Miller and husband Rick of Parsons and their children, Olivia Miller of Morgantown and Brendan Miller and wife Brandi and their child, Milli of Martinsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is one brother, Melvin Allan Oaster.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1957. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a mechanic, worked at the former Dorman Mills, and a former employee for the Operating Engineer # 132. He was a former employee of the Tucker County Board of Education in the maintenance dept. and later a mechanic at the bus garage until his retirement in 2002. He loved hunting, was an avid gardener, WVU and sports fan. He enjoyed volunteering at Cortland Acres and was a 2017 Outstanding Volunteer. He really loved spending time with his family and his friends.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 10 a.m. The Rev. James Snyder will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military honors.
