The St. John’s United Methodist Church honored the Veteran’s in attendance at their Sunday morning worship service on November 6, 2016. Pastor Phil Dent invited all Veterans to come forward and join him in the pulpit area at the front of the church. He then asked each Veteran to state their name, branch of service, and the years in which they had served. The pastor then “mugged” the Veterans, giving each one a mug as a gift to honor their sacrifice. The mugs had an inscription on the front which read, “I thank God for you.” In addition, the back of the mug contained the scripture passage “We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3. Pastor Dent then led the congregation in a round of applause for the Veterans, which became a standing ovation. Before the Veterans were seated, the pastor offered a prayer of blessing over the group. Veterans in attendance included: Victor Beckman, Kelly Snyder, Roger Carr, Don Snyder, Sonny Wilfong, Larry Bates, Jim Strawderman, Jake Kopec, Jack Hockman, and Arlie Davis. Veterans who were unable to attend due to illness included Bud Sponaugle and Allen Loughry. Pastor Phil Dent and the congregation of St. John’s United Methodist Church wish to offer our deepest appreciation and best wishes to ALL Veterans. May God richly bless each and every one of you! Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
