THOMAS, W.Va. – Dr. Dana A. Nugent is the most recent health care provider to partner with Cortland Acres bringing counseling and psychological evaluation services closer to residents of Tucker County and surrounding communities.
Dr. Nugent opened her new office in June at the Cortland Medical Specialties building on Cortland Acres’ campus in Thomas. She is available to see patients every Monday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Dr. Nugent has a doctorate and is a licensed psychologist. She also received a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from West Virginia University in 1994. She is a member of American Psychological Association.
“I’m excited to be able to bring counseling and therapy services closer to my clients in the Parsons and St. George areas as well as those in Davis, Thomas and Canaan Valley,” she said. “The Cortland Acres administration has been amazing in establishing this new specialty building which provides me the opportunity to be more central and better serve my clients.”
Dr. Nugent has been practicing in the Tucker County area since March 2007. She also serves as a staff psychologist at United Summit Center, a large, regional mental health center headquartered in Clarksburg, W.Va.
She recently started performing psychological evaluations in her private practice. “Typically the evaluations are of children who are exhibiting behavioral problems where a diagnosis is needed,” she said. “Often the child has ADHD, Autism, a learning disability, depression, pediatric Bipolar Disorder or an anxiety disorder.”
She also evaluates adults who have chronic problems with depression, interpersonal relationships, employment, difficulty concentrating or intense anxiety.
“The evaluation can determine if the child or adult has a diagnosable condition that explains and makes sense of their symptoms and provides treatment recommendations,” she said.
Dr. Nugent’s specialty services include treatment of depression and anxiety, Bipolar Disorder and trauma caused by any type of abuse (physical, emotional and sexual), accidents and military involvement.
“I also work with a number of individuals who are going through a separation or divorce, grieving the loss of a loved one or who have self-esteem issues,” she said. “I primarily treat adults but also work with children who have ADHD whose parents want a non-medication form of treatment.”
Beth Clevenger, administrator for Cortland Acres, said that the partnership with Dr. Nugent will make therapy and counseling services more accessible to residents of Tucker, Preston and Grant counties.
“We are excited to add Dr. Nugent to the health care providers available at the Cortland Medical Specialties Office,” Clevenger said. “We understand the need to bring quality health care services closer to area residents. Cortland Acres is committed to supporting and serving our community.”
Current or new patients can contact Dr. Nugent to set up appointments at 304-257-8232.
The Cortland Acres campus includes a 94-bed long-term care facility, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs, rental apartments in Pineview and patio homes in The Pines. For more information call 304-463-4181 or visit www.cortlandacres.org.
