John R. Yeager, Sr

John R. Yeager, Sr., 97, of Toronto, OH, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. John was born March 2, 1920 in Thomas, WV, son of the late John R. and Cora M (Ulrich) Yeager.


He was retired from Signode Steel Strapping with 32 years of service as a Roller. John attended Christ United Methodist Church in Weirton for 60 years and he was a 70 year member of the Weirton American Legion Post #10.

John was a Veteran of the Army Air Corps having served his country in WWII spending 4 years in the Pacific.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Attorney John R. ‘Tray’ Yeager, Jr. of Weirton, WV, his four brothers and three sisters.

John leaves behind his wife of 71 years, Joan V. (Wilson) Yeager whom he married Dec. 27, 1945; his daughters, Sherry (Tony) Foglio of Toronto, Cyndy (Rusty) Fisher of Weirton and Nancy (Sars) Ballato of Colliers, WV; his son, Tim (Marla) Yeager of Toronto; his daughter-in-law, Ethel Yeager of Weirton; his 10 grandchildren, his 18 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for John will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH. Pastor Tony Foglio will officiate the service. There will be a memorial gathering at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service at 1 pm. Following the service, Military Honors will be provided by the Weirton American Legion.
John’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Valley Hospice for all of their care and support. Memorial donations may be directed to Valley Hospice 10686 OH-150 Rayland, OH 43943.
