MOOREFIELD – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Moorefield on Monday December 18th for a varsity only contest against their PVC rival. Tucker County took the early lead and never trailed in route to a 68-33 win.
In the first quarter Tucker County dominated the game with their defense as they held the Lady Yellowjackets to just 6 points and the Lady Mt. Lions led after one quarter 16-6. Tucker County continued their defense in the second quarter as they added to the lead outscoring Moorefield 13-9 in the period to make the halftime score 29-15 Tucker County.
The third quarter would not be much different as Tucker County extended the lead in the third with an 18-16 advantage in scoring to give Tucker County a 47-31 advantage after three quarters. The Lady Mt. Lions then dominated the final quarter as they outran Moorefield up and down the court with a 21-2 advantage to get road win in runaway fashion by the final score of 68-33.
Tucker County was led by Sydney Nestor with 24 points, 7 rebounds and Terra Kuhn added 17 points, 9 rebounds. Sydney Moore finished with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals for the Lady Mt. Lions in the victory. Moorefield was led by Gianna Fair with 18 points.
HAMBLETON – Tucker County hosted Petersburg on Thursday December 21st. The Lady Mt. Lions would dominate the Lady Vikings from start to finish to pick up the home win by the final score of 89-30.
Tucker County raced out to an early lead in the first quarter and dominated on the defensive end to have the advantage after one quarter 24-4. The Lady Mt. Lions outscored the Lady Vikings 26-10 in the second quarter to make the halftime score 50-14.
In the third quarter the defensive pressure continued for Tucker County as they outpaced Petersburg 20-6 to hold a commanding 70-20 lead after three quarters. The reserve players for the Lady Mt. Lions finished out the game and Tucker County got the home victory by the final score of 89-30.
Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 23 points, 13 rebounds, 6 steals and McKinley Murphy came off the bench to score 19 points. Sydney Moore added 13 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals while Cecily Strawderman and Terra Kuhn scored 12 points each in the Tucker County win. Petersburg was led by Kayla Lantz with 5 points. The Tucker County JV team also picked up the win by the final score of 40-33.
HAMBLETON – The Lady Mt. Lions ended the busy week with a home varsity only contest against Bishop-Walsh, MD on Friday December 22nd. Tucker County once again jumped out to an early lead and never trailed as they picked up another dominating win over the Lady Spartans 86-27.
The Lady Mt. Lions held Bishop-Walsh to just 2 points in the first quarter and pushed the tempo to lead after one quarter 24-2. Tucker County outpaced the Lady Spartans in the second 19-10 to push the lead to 43-12 Tucker County at the half.
The third quarter went as the first 2 quarters went as the Lady Mt. Lions outscored Bishop-Walsh 28-8 to make the score 71-20 after three quarters. The Tucker County reserve players finished the game as they outshot the Lady Spartans in the final quarter 15-7 to make the final score 86-27.
Sydney Nestor led all scorers with 28 points, 6 steals and McKinley Murphy added 11 points for Tucker County. Terra Kuhn and Kelcee James scored 10 points each and collected 7 rebounds each for the Lady Mt. Lions in the victory.
