MT. LIONS BASKETBALL TEAMS WIN FALL ON THE ROAD AND WIN AT HOME

WHEELING – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Wheeling Central on Thursday December 21st to face the Top Ranked Maroon Knights. Tucker County got off to a slow start and could not recover as they fell in the contest 98-75.


The first quarter belonged to the home team as Wheeling Central stormed out to an early lead and outpaced the Mt. Lions to lead after one quarter 36-15. Tucker County was outscored again in the second quarter 20-15 and the Maroon Knights led the Mt. Lions at the half 56-32.

The Mt. Lions scored 20 points in the third, but Wheeling Central scored 22 points to push the home team to a 78-52 lead after three quarters. Tucker County outscored Wheeling Central in the fourth quarter 23-20, but that wasn’t enough as the Knights took the victory by the final score of 98-75.

Brandon Zirk led Tucker County with 19 points and Corrick Ambrose added 17 points, 11 rebounds. Tucker County also got 12 points from Jeffrey Snyder and 11 points from Luke Poling in the loss.

HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions hosted Bishop-Walsh, MD for a varsity only contest on Friday December 22nd. Tucker County raced out to an early 10-0 lead and never looked back as they pulled away for a 55-36 win.

The first quarter belonged to Tucker County as they outpaced the Spartans from Cumberland, MD in the first to lead after one 15-6. The Mt. Lions stayed ahead in the second and built on their lead as they outscored the visiting team 11-9 to push the lead at the half to 26-15 Tucker County.

The Spartans fought back in the third to trim the Tucker County lead to 10 as they narrowly outpaced the Mt. Lions 13-12 to make the score 38-28 Tucker County after three quarters. Tucker County then pulled away in the fourth quarter as they outscored Bishop-Walsh 17-8 to pick up the home victory 55-36.

Tucker County was led by Corrick Ambrose with 19 points and Ambrose chipped in with 7 rebounds. Wesley Snyder added 16 points, 6 rebounds and Brandon Zirk added 13 points, 8 rebounds for the Mt. Lions in the win.

Tucker County(2-4) will host Preston tonight December 27th and then they will host Keyser on Friday December 29th. For more info or complete schedules go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
