WHEELING – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Wheeling Central Catholic on Wednesday January 31st to face the Lady Knights in Wheeling. Tucker County got down early in the contest and could not complete the comeback and the Lady Mt. Lions suffered their first loss of the season by the final score of 65-44.
Wheeling Central jumped out to an 11-0 lead and Tucker County struggled to score in the first quarter as the home standing Lady Knights led after one quarter 14-2. The second quarter was played even as both team scored 16 points each to make the halftime score 30-18 Wheeling Central.
Tucker County outpaced Wheeling Central 19-18 in the third quarter, but the Lady Knights still held a 48-37 lead after three quarters of play. The Lady Mt. Lions cut the lead down to 7 late in the game, but Tucker County could not complete the comeback as Wheeling Central took home the win 65-44.
Terra Kuhn led Tucker County with 13 points, 11 rebounds and Sydney Nestor added 10 points, 8 rebounds for Tucker County in the loss. Tucker County’s JV also suffered their first loss of the season in a tight game 49-45.
FRANKLIN – Tucker County traveled to Pendleton County on Thursday February 1st for a PVC Conference game with the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Mt. Lions got off to a quick start and never looked back as they cruised to a 76-28 win.
Tucker County scored 27 points in the first quarter and the Lady Mt. Lions defense was dominate as they led 27-8 after one quarter. The visiting Lady Mt. Lions held an 18-9 advantage in the second quarter to make the halftime score 45-17 Tucker County.
The third quarter showed Tucker County controlling the pace as they outscored Pendleton County 8-5 in the quarter to gain a 53-22 lead after three quarters. The Lady Mt. Lions outpaced the home standing Lady Wildcats 23-6 in the final quarter to give Tucker County the big 76-28 road PVC win.
Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 22 points, 8 rebounds and Terra Kuhn added 15 points, 6 rebounds. Cecily Strawderman added 7 points, McKinley Murphy dished out 5 assists and Kelcee James collected 9 rebounds for Tucker County in the win. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team got the win also 51-27.
SHINNSTON – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Class “AA” Lincoln on Saturday February 3rd. Tucker County used a strong performance from their inside game to collect the big win on the road by the final score of 56-47.
Tucker County shot the ball well early as they took the lead 10-4 late in the first, but Lincoln clawed back before the end of the period to make the score 14-12 Tucker County after one quarter. The second quarter showed the muscle of Tucker County as they ran out to 7 point lead in the second, but the Lady Cougars hit a 3 point shot as time expired in the second quarter as the Lady Mt. Lions outscored Lincoln 17-15 in the second to lead at the half 31-27.
Tucker County added to their lead in the third quarter as they outpaced Lincoln 12-11 in the third to make the score 43-38 after three. The fourth quarter belonged to the visiting Lady Mt. Lions as they out rebounded the home team and outshot the Lady Cougars to pick up the big road win by the final score of 56-47.
Terra Kuhn led Tucker County with a career high 26 points and collected 10 rebounds. Sydney Nestor followed with 16 points, 9 rebounds and Sydney Moore added 10 points, 8 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. The Tucker County JV team fell in a close game 38-36.
