MT. LIONS BEAT EAST HARDY AND DROP GAME TO SOUTHERN AT HOME

HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team hosted East Hardy on January 31st. The Mt. Lions took the season series with a 69-51 win at home over East Hardy.


Tucker County took the early lead as the game started and maintained a 14-7 advantage after one quarter of play. The Mt. Lions outscored the visiting Cougars 21-14 in the second period to make the Tucker County lead at the half 35-22.

The Mt. Lions up the lead to 19 points after three quarters as Tucker County outshot East Hardy 19-13 to give the home team a 54-35 lead after three quarters. East Hardy won the final quarter 16-15, but that wasn’t enough to complete a comeback as Tucker County took the victory by the final score of 69-51.

Wesley Snyder led Tucker County with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and Alec Cummings added 18 points for the Mt. Lions in the victory. Brandon Zirk chipped in 8 points and Corrick Ambrose had 7 points also for Tucker County.

HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions hosted longtime rival Southern, MD on Friday February 2nd. Tucker County raced out to an early lead, but the visiting Rams rallied back in the second quarter and took home the victory by the final score of 57-49.

The first quarter belonged to Tucker County as the outscored Southern early in the game, but the Rams fought back late in the quarter to make the score 19-16 Tucker County after one quarter. Southern started to control the game in the second quarter as the Rams outscored the Mt. Lions 13-6 in quarter number two to make the score 29-25 Southern at the half.

The third quarter was played fairly even as Southern had a slim 17-16 advantage in the quarter and Southern led Tucker County after three 46-41. The hot shooting and crisp passing for the visiting Rams continued in the fourth quarter and Southern made their foul shots down the stretch to outscore Tucker County 11-8 in the quarter to pick up the win over the Mt. Lions 57-49.

Corrick Ambrose led Tucker County with 22 points, 13 rebounds and Wesley Snyder added 13 points for the Mt. Lions in the loss. Jeffrey Snyder and Brandon Zirk added 5 rebounds for Tucker County and Alec Cummings chipped in with 7 points.

Tucker County(9-8) will travel to Pendleton County tonight Wednesday February 7th and then they will host Moorefield on Friday February 9th. For more info or complete schedules go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
