Deputy Chris Teter explained the role of law enforcement in county government to third grade students at Tucker Valley Elementary Middle School.

National County Government Month, held each April, is an annual celebration of county government. Since 1991, the National Association of Counties has encouraged counties to actively promote the services and programs they offer. Tucker County officials used the opportunity to highlight effective county programs and raise public awareness and understanding about the various services provided to the county.

Third grade teachers Sara Kovach and Kim McCrum, and fifth grade teachers Kellie Crosten and Dale Lansberry, invited county officials to meet with their students and explain how their office helped to serve Tucker County citizens. Students had an opportunity to ask questions and share their experience with community service.  Governor Jim Justice sent a letter that was read to the students and also provided several boxes of educational information about the state that was handed out to students for classroom discussion and to take home.

In addition to Deputy Teter (Sheriff’s Office), other officials participating included Sherry Simmons, County Clerk; Sharon Moats, Circuit Clerk; Riley Barb, Magistrate; Ray LaMora, Prosecuting Attorney; and County Commissioners Diane Hinkle, Patrick Darlington, and Lowell Moore.
