Terrence “Terry” Blake Nestor, age 83 years, a resident of Parsons, WV departed this life early Wednesday morning, May 30, 2018 at Cortland Acres at Thomas, WV. He had been in declining health.
He was born Sunday, March 17, 1935 at Elkins, WV, a son of the late Gay M. and Beulah Goff Nestor. On December 23, 1953 at Elkins, WV, he was married to his high school sweetheart, the former Devetta Ellen Chambers, who preceded him in death August 8, 2013. They had celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage.
Surviving are one daughter, Christie Cheryl Cook and husband Stephen of Franklin, KY; one son, Jeffrey David Nestor and wife Lisa of Clendenin, WV; two sisters, Claudette Judy and Carmen White, both of Sugarlands; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Brian, Terrin and Chase; and three great grandchildren, Erika, Kennedy and Matthew.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1954. He made a career and was a twenty-year Veteran of the United States Air Force serving his country around the globe in Okinawa, Korea, England, Germany and Africa as well as many stateside postings. He was a cryptography and communications specialist and retired in 1974 returning to Parsons. Following his military career, Terry became a print pressman for McClain Printing Company and operated a press for nearly ten years. In the early 1980’s, he had opportunity to return to work for the United States Government and was posted in Bulgaria until his final retirement in 1986. Terry (call sign K8UF) was an avid ham radio operator and loved to operate CW communication of the HF Band to operators around the world. He has made thousands of contacts from all over. He was also an amateur photographer shooting mainly 35-millimeter film and processing his landscape and wildlife photographs in his own darkroom. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Munich, Germany. He loved his country, spy novels, and his doggies, and cherished his family, friends and radio contacts.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. Final Rites were conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. The Rev. William R. Brown officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV, where the Joint Base Andrews Honor Guard conducted full military honors.
