Estella Ethel Shahan “Peg” Filler

Estella Ethel Shahan “Peg” Filler, age 95 years, a resident of Parsons, WV departed this life Monday morning, May 28, 2018 at Lavender Fields Assisted Living at Beverly, WV under the care of Mountain Hospice.  She had been in declining health for the past six months.


She was born Thursday, February 15, 1923 at St. George, WV, a daughter of the late Floyd Campbell and Dona Marie Harsh Shahan.  On June 23, 1943 at Red House, MD, she was married to Charles Fletcher “Pete” Filler, who preceded her in death January 11, 2002.  They had celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage.

Surviving are one son, Charles Larry Filler and wife Gwen of Edmond, OK; one daughter, Ronda Lea McAdory and husband Thomas of Cordova, TN; three sisters, Velma “Toots” Roy and Jean Morrison and husband Floyd, all of Parsons, and Faye Capper of Tampa, FL; eight grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are five brothers, Dorsey Floyd” Jake” Shahan, Doyle Shahan, Ellis Shahan, Ray Shahan and Buddy Shahan; two sisters, Delphia Jones and Thelma Tenney; and one great grandson, Maverick Thomas.

She attended the one room Murphy School and Parsons High School.  She was a founding member of the Parsons Church of the Nazarene, and she received the Distinguished Service Award from the church.  She was an employee of the former Dorman Woolen Mill for years, worked for Fiber-Spun in “Stanton, VA and retired from the Tucker County Senior Center, where she was a caregiver.  She sold Tupperware and Avon, enjoyed knitting, crochet, sewing, quilting, and canning produce from her garden.   Peg loved playing board games with her grandchildren.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday.  On Thursday morning, May 31, 2018 Mrs. Filler was moved to the Parsons First Church of the Nazarene at Parsons, WV where final rites were conducted at 10 a.m.  The Rev. Thom McAdory, the Rev. Jim Sherman, and the Rev. Larry Filler officiated and interment followed at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George, WV.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for Estella Ethel Shahan “Peg” Filler.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com
