It was business as usual at the regular session of the Tucker County Board of Education held Tuesday, June 12, 2018. Superintendent Campbell presented to the board and they approved several items to include transfers, resignations, and employments.
Kelly Reed has been hired as First grade teacher at TVEMS, effective Aug. 8.
Courtney Nestor, has been hired as 5-8 grade science teacher at TVEMS, effective Aug. 8.
Amy Moore has been hired as social studies teacher 5-8 at TVEMS, effective Aug.8.
Stephanie Hood has been hired as math teacher at DTEMS, effective Aug. 8.
Hannah Evans has been hired as .5FTE Elementary Specials at DTEMS, effective Aug 8.
Catherine Chambers has been hired as CTE Math at TCHS, effective Aug. 8.
Christine Ward has been hired as Special Education Teacher ESY, Itinerant, from July 2-Aug 3.
The resignation, due to retirement, was accepted from Margaret Harper, Kindergarten Aide at TVEMS.
Robert Leard was hired as custodian III/truck driver/groundsman at TCBOE Annex, effective July 1.
Burl Waybright was hired as summer program bus operator effective June 12-July 28.
Amber Kyle was hired as head cheer coach at TCHS, effective July 30.
Bus No. 22 was declared as surplus property.
The following positions will be posted:
DTEMS – evening custodian
TVEMS – Art Teacher, Math Teacher 5-8, Teacher Grade 5-6 Virtual Class Monitor, Kindergarten Aide, and Head Football Coach
TCHS – Guidance Counselor, Ag Sciences Teacher, Assistant Girls Basketball Coach and Assistant Baseball Coach
Discussion then centered around the roof project at Davis Thomas Elementary Middle School. It has been determined there is asbestos in the roof, so appropriate measures for it’s removal will affect the projected time frame for completion. It will probably have to be split into two jobs. No bids have yet been accepted.
The next regular meeting of the Tucker County Board of Education are:

The Board retired into executive session to discuss matters related to the search for a new superintendent. This included the development of criteria for superintendent search and collating responses to WVSBA suggested survey, the determination of need and benefit of public committee participation on the superintendent search and the possibility of a selection of committee members, the development of a list of questions to be proposed to the prospective candidates and a possible score sheet that could be used.
