Roxanne Nestor Tuesing, Executive Director of the Tucker County Senior Citizens, Inc. has announced they will again be sponsoring a feeding program this summer in six different sites throughout the county to provide a nourishing lunch for the children 18 years of age and younger. This is in partnership with the WV Department of Education, and the USDA Summer Food Service Program for Children.
“In this land of plenty, it is sad to know that when the school ends, so does the food for some of our children here in Tucker County. The school meal is sometimes the only meal they get. We are projecting that we will serve over 8,500 meals this summer.” said Tuesing.
When this program was first started several years ago, it was at the request of the WV Department of Education. State commodities were used. Since that time, the program has expanded greatly with the help of reimbursements and other donations. The nutritious lunches are cooked and packaged at both senior centers and will be available at the following times and locations:
Davis Community Park – pavilion M-Th June 18-Aug 10 11-12 p.m.
Mill Race Park – small pavilion M-F June 18-Aug 10 11:30-12:15 p.m.
