Book Signing
Charleston and Tucker County author John Brown will conduct a book reading at Cottrill’s Opera House in Thomas on Saturday, June 30 at 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Canaan Valley NWR Events
Saturday, June 30, 10 a.m., Kids Bike Ride. Meet Americorp Kristin Lantz at the Brown Mountain Parking Lot at the end of Camp 70 road for a bike ride and a talk about beavers. Adults welcome. Bring your own bike and safety equipment.
Large Ice and Snow Storm Training
Training will be Wednesday June 27 at 9 a.m. at the EOC in Parsons. The scenario is large ice and snow storm followed by rain melting snow and flooding on all ends of the county and nine counties around Tucker. We would like any and all of our local emergency service workers and responders to participate either by radio contact or phone. If you normally work out of the EOC in times of need please fill free to report that morning to the EOC. This should be a good test of our capabilities of local response and resources. Cortland’s Run For IT team, the Challengers, are offering FREE parking and items for concession on Saturday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Cortland Acres. ALL monies raised by the team benefit the residents of Cortland Acres.
