Cortland residents were treated to a tour of the new Tucker County Courthouse Annex on Nov. 14, and they had an excellent time.
County Clerk Sherry Simmons was the liaison, and all three county commissioners assisted. Circuit Clerk Jeanie Bava described the circuit courtroom, and Simmons took residents through the “vault”.
While there she showed J. Pat Nichols a jar of keys that she had saved from the old vault – one of them still had J. Pat’s name attached!
Residents enjoyed riding the elevator and seeing both the public and secure hallways of each floor. They especially liked the ceiling to floor windows and the beautiful inlaid tiles with the Tucker County seal that features Blackwater Falls.
Magistrate Riley Barb sat in his bench, and Champ Sedmock was pushed up the ramp by Commissioner Mike Rosenau into the witness stand of the Circuit Court. He was the first wheelchair person to do so – and it worked.
Pat A. Nichols joined his parents for the tour as well.
