Carl Gene Spessert, 79, a resident of Montrose, passed from this life Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center after an extended illness.
Carl was born Friday, September 22, 1939, on Location Road, Tucker County, a son of the late George W. Spessert, Jr., and Reva Faye Kisner. On August 13, 1960, in Oakland, MD, he was married to the former Janet Beckman, who survives. They had celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Also left to cherish Carl’s memory are two sons, David G. Spessert and wife, Linda of Montrose and Dana P. Spessert and wife, Angela of Arlington, TN, three daughters, Carla J. Shreve of Montrose, Karen L. Spessert and companion, Bill Ware of Valley Bend, and Gina C. McCauley of Montrose, seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, one brother, Anthony Spessert and wife, Christina of Connecticut, two sisters, Rose Williams and husband, Denver of Ballard, WV, and Rebecca Spessert of Location Road, one sister-in-law, Martha Spessert of Kerens, one daughter-in-law, Pam of Montrose, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by one son, John W. Spessert, one sister, Deborah Spessert, one brother, Rodney Spessert, and one son-in-law, William Shreve.
Carl graduated from Parsons High School with the Class of 1957. He graduated from the National Hardwood Lumber Association in Memphis, TN in 1962, and graduated from the school of hard knocks in Phillip. During the 1970s, he served with the volunteer fire department. He was a proud business owner of a lumber company dealing in wholesale lumber owning several tractor and trailers, he dealt in new and used farm equipment, and he was a farmer who loved his horses and was a member of the Draft Horse Association. He was a bus driver for the Randolph County Board of Education for fifteen years. He was a lover of bluegrass music with the ability to play several different instruments. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well.
A visitation was held at Hostetler Funeral Home in Parsons on Sunday, March 31, 2019, from 2 until 4 p.m. Carl’s request for cremation was then honored.
