Arbor Day brought buckets of rain, but did not prevent Mountaineer Garden Club members, Glenda Lipscomb and Faith Moore, with the assistance of Chris Alderman, employee of the park, from planting two Fall Fiesta Sugar Maples trees at Mill Race Park.
A patented cultivar of sugar maple (Acer saccharum), the Fall Fiesta maple (Acer saccharum “Bailsta” Fall Fiesta) is known for its rapid and vigorous growth rate. The maple has good disease resistance and reliable beautiful fall color, good growth form and leaves, and a variety of tolerances. These characteristics plus dense shading capacity make it a good choice in the garden for U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 3 to 8.
