Tucker County Girls’ Fall to Parkersburg Catholic at States 85-47

CHARLESTON – The #7 Lady Mt. Lions Basketball team traveled to the Charleston Coliseum on Thursday March 12th to compete in the WV Girls’ Basketball Tournament against #2 Parkersburg Catholic. Tucker County failed to get their offense going early and they could not complete a comeback as Tucker County fell in the contest by the final score of 85-47.

Parkersburg Catholic got off to a quick 4-0 start and with 2:44 left in the first quarter Parkersburg Catholic led the Lady Mt. Lions 12-2. Tucker County was then outscored 9-3 the rest of the quarter as Parkersburg Catholic led after one 21-5. The second quarter showed fight by the Lady Mt. Lions fight as they cut the lead down to 27-14 with 4 minutes left in the second. Parkersburg Catholic then responded with another run as they finished the quarter on a 14-2 run to make the score at the halftime intermission 41-16 Parkersburg Catholic.

The third quarter started with Parkersburg Catholic building a 50-21 lead at the 5:56 mark in third. Tucker County then responded with an offensive run to cut the lead to 52-30 with 3:24 left in the third. Parkersburg Catholic then responded again as they pushed the lead back to 29 at the end of the third as the score was 62-33 Parkersburg Catholic. The fourth quarter was also controlled by Parkersburg Catholic and with 3:11 left in the game Tucker County subbed in their reserve players. Parkersburg Catholic chose to leave their starters in the remainder of the game to give them the victory by the final score of 85-47.

Terra Kuhn led Tucker County with 19 points, 7 rebounds and London Hood added 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists. Freshman Kadie Colebank chipped in with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and Gracie Rapp had 5 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists for Tucker County in the loss. At the conclusion of this game the WVSSAC suspended the State Tournament because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Tucker County finished the season with a 18-8 record. The Lady Mt. Lions earned a 16th consecutive trip to the State Tournament this season.
