GLENVILLE – The Tucker County Football team traveled to #9 Gilmer County last Friday October 22nd. The Mt. Lions took the lead in the third quarter, but Gilmer County responded to pick up the home win 26-20.
The Titans started the game with an explosive play on special teams as Gilmer County received the opening kick and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown. The PAT kick was no good to put Gilmer County ahead early in the game 6-0. The Mt. Lions moved the ball on their first possession, but Tucker County could not sustain the drive. Both teams failed to score the rest of the first quarter and the score remained the same at the end of the first 6-0 Gilmer County. The Titans then struck again on offense with a 13 yard touchdown run with 6:29 left in the second quarter. The PAT kick was good to put the score at 13-0 Gilmer County. The Mt. Lions then responded with a scoring drive on offense. Ethan Rosenau connected with Maddox Anderson on a 7 yard touchdown pass. The 2 point conversion failed to make the score 13-6 Titans with 2:59 left in the second. The second quarter would end with the score the same at halftime 13-6 Gilmer County.
Tucker County got the ball to start the third and their offense went to work again. The Mt. Lions would score with 10:05 left in the third on a 35 yard touchdown pass from Rosenau to Jakob Barrett. The PAT conversion was good to put Tucker County ahead 14-13. Gilmer County could not answer in the third as the Mt. Lions made a goal line stand late in the third to keep the score at 14-13 Tucker County after three quarters of play. The homestanding Titans then would score in the fourth quarter on a 3 yard touchdown run. The PAT conversion failed to make the score 19-14 Gilmer County with 8:28 left in the game. The Mt. Lions offense then drove the ball down to the Titan 25 yard line, but the Gilmer County defense got a 4th down stop with 3:54 left in the game to give the ball back to the Titans. Gilmer County then scored with 1:50 left in the game on a 50 yard touchdown run. The PAT kick was good to push the Titans lead to 26-14. The visiting Mt. Lions then drove the ball down the field and scored on an 18 yard touchdown pass from Rosenau to Anderson. The 2 point conversion failed to make the score 26-20 with 1:00 left in the game. Tucker County then attempted an onside kick, but the Titans recovered the kick to end the Mt. Lions chance at a comeback. Gilmer County then ran out the clock to capture the victory over Tucker County 26-20.
Tucker County was led by Ethan Rosenau with 13 of 20 passing for 169 yards. The Mt. Lions Jared Reall finished with 15 carries for 72 yards rushing. Maddox Anderson made 4 receptions for 51 yards receiving and Jakob Barrett added 2 catches for 51 yards receiving. Racer Channell also had 3 receptions for 38 yards receiving for Tucker County in the loss. JJ Knotts led the Mt. Lions on defense with 7 tackles and Gavin Mullenax added 5 tackles for the Tucker County defense.
