Please be patient with us. Due to the Covid pandemic all of our activities are day to day. We are doing our best to stick to the calendar of events but we may have to make changes at a moment’s notice. Thank you for understanding.
Keep your eyes peeled for news about our trips for next year. We have several day trips in the works and one 7 day trip, probably in October. Please remember that most of our trips have to have the final payment to the tour company 4 to 6 weeks before we leave so you might want to put a little money aside each week in case you become interested in going with us on a trip.
The Outpost at Mt. Top is scheduled for Tuesday, December 21st. Pastor Greg Smith from the First Baptist Church will be singing for us then. We begin our Outpost at 10:30 a.m. so please try to be on time so you aren’t interrupting the program. This is a covered dish dinner so bring your favorite dish to share with others. Please come and enjoy the good fellowship, great entertainment, and delicious food.
December 9th is Christmas card Day. In 1843, Sir Henry Cole waited too long in sending the usual notes, so he hired and artist and printer and created the first Christmas cards. Have you gotten yours done? Remember the mail is slow at this time of year so do not hesitate; get them in the mail soon.
According to many sources, a poem called “The Blessing of Unanswered Prayers” was found on the body of a Confederate soldier after the Battle of Gettysburg on December 10,1863 in the Civil War. Its author is unknown. The poem follows:
I asked for strength that I might achieve; I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health that I might do greater things; I was given infirmity that I might do better things.
I asked for riches that I might be happy; I was given poverty that I might be wise.
I asked for power that I might have the praise of men;I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life; I was given life that I Might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I had asked for, but everything that I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself my unspoken prayers were answered; I am among all men, most richly blessed.
