BAKER – The Lady Mt. Lions Basketball team traveled to East Hardy on Tuesday February 1st. Tucker County pulled ahead in the second quarter and the Lady Mt. Lions never looked back as they picked up the road win 45-23.
The first quarter was highly contested as East Hardy held a slim lead after one quarter 6-4. Tucker County then got their offense going in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Cougars 14-4 in the period to make the halftime score 18-10 Lady Mt. Lions.
Tucker County took complete control of the game in the third quarter as the Lady Mt. Lions outpaced East Hardy 15-7 in the quarter to push the Tucker County lead to 33-17. The fourth quarter was also won by the visiting Lady Mt. Lions 12-6 to make the final score 45-23 Tucker County.
Jayden Kuhn led Tucker County with 11 points, 4 steals and Kadie Colebank added 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 blocks. Brylee Wetzel added 7 points, 5 rebounds and Macy Helmick had 7 points, 4 assists for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. The Tucker County JV team got the win in the first game 28-18.
MILL CREEK – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team traveled to Tygarts Valley on Thursday February 3rd. In a close contest the homestanding Lady Bulldogs held off a late charge from Tucker County to capture the 60-58 win.
The first quarter was back and forth as the Lady Mt. Lions held a slight 17-16 lead after one quarter. Tygarts Valley would build a lead in the second quarter as the Lady Bulldogs outscored Tucker County in the quarter 12-6 to give Tygarts Valley the 28-23 lead at the halftime break.
Tucker County fought back in the third quarter as they outpaced the Lady Bulldogs 16-13 to make the score 41-39 Tygarts Valley after three quarters. The fourth quarter was a back and forth battle throughout as the game was tied late in the contest. Then with the game tied under 20 seconds to play a foul was called on Tucker County to send the Lady Bulldogs to the foul line. Tygarts Valley made the free throws and the Tucker County shot at the buzzer did not fall to give the Lady Bulldogs the upset win 60-58.
Jayden Kuhn led Tucker County with 20 points and Kadie Colebank added 17 points, 15 rebounds. Brylee Wetzel added 10 points for the Lady Mt. Lions and Macy Helmick chipped in with 8 points. The Lady Mt. Lion JV team picked up the win over Tygarts Valley 67-9.
HAMBLETON – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted Pocahontas County on Saturday February 5th. Tucker County got a good lead in the first quarter and built on that throughout the game to capture a 57-31 victory.
The first quarter belonged to the Lady Mt. Lions as they pulled away from the Lady Warriors for a 15-6 after one. Both teams played even in the second quarter 11-11 to put the halftime score to 26-17 Tucker County.
The defense for the Lady Mt. Lions then took over in the third as they held Pocahontas County scoreless. Tucker County scored 12 points in the third to push the Lady Mt. Lions lead to 38-17 after three. In the fourth quarter Tucker County outscored the Lady Warriors 19-14 to give the Lady Mt. Lions the victory by the score of 57-31.
Kadie Colebank led Tucker County with 17 points, 16 rebounds, 4 steals and Jacey Davis added 12 points, 5 rebounds. Macy Helmick chipped in with 9 rebounds in the win for the Lady Mt. Lions. The Tucker County JV team got the win also by the final score of 50-11.
Tucker County(13-5) will return to action on Thursday February 10th as they host Petersburg. The Lady Mt. Lions will then travel to #1 Gilmer County on Tuesday February 15th. The JV game for both games will start at 5:45pm with the Varsity game to follow. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
