BAKER – The Lady Mt. Lions Basketball team traveled to East Hardy on Thursday December 8th to open their season with a varsity only contest. Tucker County trailed after one quarter, but the visiting Lady Mt. Lions pulled away for the 47-35 victory.
The first quarter was low scoring as both teams struggled to score as the Lady Cougars led after one quarter 7-6. Tucker County pulled ahead in the second quarter as they outscored East Hardy 14-9 in the second to make the halftime score 20-16 Lady Mt. Lions.
The third quarter would also be controlled by Tucker County as they outshot the Lady Cougars 11-6 to push the Lady Mt. Lions lead up to 31-22. East Hardy tried to make a run in the fourth, but Tucker County held off the rally as they outscored East Hardy 16-13 in the fourth to give the Lady Mt. Lions the road victory by the score of 47-35.
Macy Helmick led Tucker County with 18 points and Jacey Davis added 8 points. Kadie Colebank had a team high 9 rebounds, 3 assists and Brylee Wetzel added 6 points.
HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team hosted Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon December 10th for a varsity only game. The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to a big lead early and then cruised to a 78-11 victory.
The first quarter went to Tucker County as they led after one quarter 21-4. The Lady Mt. Lions continued to dominate in the second quarter as Tucker County outscored the Lady Irish 26-6 to make the halftime score 47-10.
The home team held Notre Dame to 1 point in the third quarter to push the score to 66-11 after three quarters. The fourth quarter would also belong to Tucker County as they held Notre Dame scoreless in the fourth to make the final score 78-11 Lady Mt. Lions.
Tucker County was led by Macy Helmick with 18 points, 6 assists and 6 steals. Ericka Zirk added 14 points for the Lady Mt. Lions and Kadie Colebank had a double double with 10 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists for Tucker County. Brylee Wetzel chipped in with 9 points and Avery Colebank added 8 point for Tucker County. The Tucker County Girls’ JV team picked up a 51-39 win over Keyser at home on December 9th.
Tucker County(2-0) will return to action on Friday at home against Pocahontas County. The JV contest will start at 5:45pm with the Varsity game to follow. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
