Darrell Lynn Heckler

Darrell Lynn Heckler, 78, a resident of St. George, passed away on Thursday January 5, 2023. He had been in his usual health and death was related to an accident.

Darrell was born on July 22, 1944, in Parsons, a son of the late Durl “Dub” Heckler and Beulah Viola Poling. On September 25, 1964, in Oakland, MD, he was married to Joan Ellen Wiles, who proceed him in death.

In addition to his wife, he was proceeded in death by two brothers Lawrence “Larry” A. Heckler and Roger Lee Heckler. 

Left to cherish Darrell’s memory are two children, Trina Denise Carr and husband Stephen, and Darrell “Darin” Wade Heckler all of St. George. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Amber L. Heckler, Melissa B.

Burns, Cody W. Heckler, and Kristy D. Heckler as well as 6 great grandchildren. In addition, Darrell has 1 surviving sister Janice L. Daniels and husband Carl, and 2 surviving brothers Dorsey G. Heckler and wife Charlotte, and Hilrey L. Heckler and wife Linda. 

Darrell attended Mountaineer High School. He previously worked at Hinchcliff Lumber and Kingsford Coal Company. He retired from Fairfax Sand and Stone in 2010 where he had worked for over 20 years. He attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Elkins. Darrell was a mild and soft-hearted man who dearly loved his family. He and his wife, Joan, deeply cared about children and assisted children in need. He enjoyed spending time in the woods, hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. He was an avid outdoorsman and mechanic.

Darrell’s request for cremation will be honored. A memorial service was held at the Parsons Community Center in Parsons on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 2 p.m.  Interment will follow at a later date. The Hostetler Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Darrell Lynn Heckler. Send online condolences to the family at www.hostetlerfuneralhome.com.
