TUCKER SOFTBALL FALL TO EAST HARDY, WIN AT PENDLETON COUNTY

PETERSBURG – The Lady Mt. Lions were scheduled to open Sectional play at home on Tuesday May 2nd against East Hardy.  Due to the snowy weather and wet field conditions Tucker County had to travel to Petersburg to use the Lady Vikings field for a Sectional game against East Hardy on Thursday May 4th.  Tucker County started the game well as they scored 1 run in the 1st inning to take an early 1-0 after 1 inning.  The Lady Cougars then got the bats going as they scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning to give East Hardy the 5-1 lead after 2 innings.  The Lady Cougars added 1 run in the 4th inning to push their lead to 6-1 after 4 innings.  The Lady Mt. Lions then responded in the 5th inning as they scored 4 runs in the frame to put the score to 6-5 East Hardy after 5 innings.  The next 2 innings produced no scoring as Tucker County fell in the game by the score of 6-5.

The Lady Mt. Lions outhit the Lady Cougars 10-6, but Tucker County only got 5 runs across the plate.  The Lady Mt. Lions were led in batting by Kate Simmons with 3 hits.  Raven Matthews had 2 hits(double), while Paige Shaffer(double), Autumn Russell, Rachel Felton, Addie Hicks and Ava Shaffer added 1 hit each.  Ava Shaffer took the loss for Tucker County and Paige Shaffer entered the game in relief.

 

FRANKLIN – Tucker County traveled to Pendleton County for an Elimination game on Saturday evening May 6th.  The Lady Mt. Lions got off to a quick start in the top of the 1st inning as they produced 4 runs in the inning led by a 2 out homerun to left field by Corrinia Lipscomb.  This made the score 4-0 Tucker County after 1 inning.  The Lady Mt. Lions would then add 2 runs in the 2nd inning and 2 runs in the 3rd inning to push their lead to 8-0 after 3 innings.  Tucker County would add 1 insurance run in the 5th inning as the game ended with the final score of 9-0 Lady Mt. Lions.

Pendleton County could not figure out the pitching of Paige Shaffer as she pitched a complete game gem allowing just 2 hits.  Addie Hicks led Tucker County at the plate with 2 hits, while Katie Hicks, Kate Simmons, Paige Shaffer, Autumn Russell(double), Raven Matthews, Corrinia Lipscomb(HR) and Rachel Felton added 1 hit each in the win for the Lady Mt. Lions. 

 

Tucker County(12-13) were scheduled to host East Hardy for a Elimination Sectional game on Monday May 8th.  The winner of this game will move on to play Moorefield or Petersburg and the losing team’s season will end.  For more information go to TuckerCountySports.com.
