Betty Lou Lowther Humphrey

Betty Lou Lowther Humphrey, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed on to paradise October 19, 2023, at home surrounded by loving family and her special pup Buddy.

Born at Skelt, WV to Sarah and Melville Lowther, Betty graduated from Parsons High School in 1959 and attended Fairmont State University and West Virginia University during her career.  She was previously married to Otwell “June” Humphrey.

Betty worked for Doorman Woolen Mill, Tucker County Headstart program, the Tucker County Hospital in the kitchen and thanks to her amazing cooking and the love for the kitchen she owned several restaurants in Parsons and worked in many others.  She worked at Cortland Acres Nursing home in activities and as manager of the Pineview Apartments and was past director of the Tucker County Senior Center.  Betty worked for Sentry Sign Installers in Sanford Florida before working very hard at retirement and moving back to Parsons.  She enjoyed crochet, visiting the beach and reading.

Betty was proceeded in death by her parents, Melville and Sarah, brother Jesse, Donald, Dana, Lester and sisters Areta Jean, Josephine, Carol, Billie, and Myrtle Nell and was survived by her remaining brother Charles, children Tammy of Sanford, FL, Larry of Parsons, bonus children Beverly Bennett, Cathy Jones, and Eric McCrum, her three grandchildren Kayla, Nick, and Sarah.  She also had two great grandchildren McKenzie and Sophia along with special stepchildren, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Betty’s wishes of cremation have been honored and a memorial service has been planned for family in November.  The Hostetler Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Betty Lou Lowther Humphrey.  Send online condolences to the family at www.hostetlerfuneralhome.com.
