PARSONS – Parsons City Council voted to Tuesday to hire an engineer and work to get a cost estimate to repair the damaged diversion wall in the Pulp Mill Bottom after learning there could be no help from the Army Corps of Engineers.
Officials learned of a large hole in the structure around July 4 of this year, and they have been working to secure help from the Army Corps of Engineers and the Tygart Valley Conservation District, however, the work does not fall into the scope of either entity.
Councilmembers also approved a $20,000 match for the Second St. Streetscape Improvement project. Members voted to approve the match to help secure an additional $80,000 in grant funds. The total of that project is $275,000. Parsons City Administrator/Treasurer said that securing the additional monies should be enough to complete the streetscape from City Hall to Nichols Law Offices.
Mayor Dorothy Judy signed a proclamation declaring Sept. 7 to 13 as Five Rivers Library Week in honor of their 40 year anniversary.
In other business, Parsons City Council appointed Cynthia Kolsun and Amy Owens to serve as ON TRAC Liaison and AFHA AmeriCorps Site Supervisor.
Council members voted to advertise for proposals to help complete a comprehensive plan, which is now required by state code.
The next Parsons City Council meeting is slated for 6 p.m. Sept. 2.
