Reverend George Harley DeLeurere, 73, a resident of Hendricks, passed from this life Saturday, September 13, 2014 at home.

Harley was born Thursday, October 10, 1940 in Gary, Indiana, a son of the late Lawrence Eugene DeLeurere and M. Margaret Ravenscroft DeLeurere. On August 31, 1974, he married the former Sharon Faith Hall of Revere, PA who survives in Hendricks. The recently celebrated forty years of marriage.

Left to cherish Harley’s memory are four children, Lawrence Harley Lester DeLeurere and wife Kristi of Morgantown, Elspeth Alexandra DeLeurere, Alison Ravenscroft DeLeurere both of Hendricks and Zachary Garrett DeLeurere and wife Laura of Ashland, VA, five grandchildren, Wesley Garrett DeLeurere, Caleb Michael DeLeurere, Grady Zachary DeLeurere, Graham Charles DeLeurere and Deasah Nycolle Lee, two brothers, Armand Pierre DeLeurere and Wesley Lawrence DeLeurere, one sister, Melissa Marie DeLeurere Alexander and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers in law and sisters in law.

Preceding Harley in death besides his parents was one daughter, Alexandra Margaret Hall DeLeurere, one grandson, Isaiah Lawrence DeLeurere, and his parents- in- law, Lester Sheldon Hall and Ida Mae Lilley Hall.

Harley began his fifty-plus years of ministry in 1962. He has pastored churches in Elk Garden, WV, Nethken Hill, WV, Shaw, WV, Vindex, MD, Emoryville, WV, Hartsmanville, WV, Kitzmiller, MD, Kokomo, IN and Hendricks, WV. Harley spent forty plus years as pastor at the Hendricks Free Methodist Church. For the past four years, he has attended the Hambleton United Methodist Church. Harley worked for the CSX and Western Maryland Railroad for several years and collected Lionel trains. Anyone that knew him, knew of his three great loves in order, God, family and then trains. He will be sadly missed by those that knew him. Harley never knew a stranger and shared the gospel up until the day he died. To talk to him, he would tell you that he was just average. For those who knew him, he was an extraordinary man.

Visitation was held at the Summerfield Funeral Home Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. Pastors Roger Yeager and Elmer “Buzz” Hall will officiate and interment will follow in the Fansler Cemetery in Hendricks.

The Summerfield Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Rev. George “Harley” DeLeurere. Send online condolences to the family at www.summerfieldfuneralhome.com
