The Lady Mt. Lions of Tucker County High School ended their season this past week with a first-round loss in the State Tournament at the hands of Greenbrier West. Tucker found itself in foul trouble early on with starters Raven Matthews and Makenna Evans with 2 fouls a piece.
The Cavilers would take advantage and go on a 9-0 run in the first, and they would hold the lead at 23-12 to end the first quarter. Greenbrier West would continue to give Tucker problems with their pressure defense forcing multiple turnovers.
The Lady Mt. Lions were only outscored by one point in the period and the Cavilers had the lead at the half 42-30. Tucker would dig deep in the second half and mount a monstrous comeback. The Lady Mt. Lions would go on a 14-2 run in the third erasing the Cavilers double digit lead and outscoring them 21-14 to make the score 56-51 going into the final period.
Tucker would continue to claw their way back and would even take the lead late in the quarter. However, Greenbrier West would pull through in the end and claim the victory. The Lady Mt. Lions finish their season 16-8. Tucker’s senior forward, Raven Matthews, was chosen to the Single A All-Tournament Team.
