The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball squad took on the Pendleton County Wildcats in the regional finals this past week, with the chance of making it to the State Tournament on the line. Tucker would start off slow hitting just one basket in the first 5:00 minutes of the first quarter.
However, that would all come to an end as the Mt. Lions would hit a season high 18 three pointers by the final horn, in what was a masterful display of shooting. Tucker held the lead at the end of one quarter at just 12-9. The second quarter would be a different story as the shooting would heat up, with sophomore guard, Ethan Cummings, who hit 3 triples in the period and Tucker would score 26 points to go with it, taking the lead 38-20 at the break.
The Mt. Lions dropped 6 more threes and scored a massive 32 points in the third quarter to make the advantage 70-30. Tucker would find its lead at 45 points before it was all over with a final score of 82-37. The win garnered Tucker the #2 seed in the Tournament just behind rival, Tug Valley.
This sets Tucker with a matchup against the #7 seed of Magnolia High School on Thursday, March 20 at 1:00pm inside the famed Charleston Coliseum. Tucker played Magnolia in the Rotary Invitational at Magnolia High back on January 21, with Tucker taking the win 81-51. Tucker finishes play with a 20-2 overall record.
