Junior Paul Helmick, Sr, 82, a resident of Parsons (Mt. Zion Community), was called home to the Lord on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center in Elkins with his family by his side. He had been in declining health and under the care of West Virginia Caring.
Junior was born on Thursday, March 30, 1944, at Mt. Zion. On August 28, 1965, in Baltimore, MD he was married to Charlotte Faye Foster, who survives. They had celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Also left to cherish Junior’s memory are two sons, JR Helmick and wife Tammy, of Parsons and David Helmick and wife Kelly, of Hambleton: one grandson, Trenton Helmick: and three Granddaughters, Macy Helmick, Kennide Helmick and Maddy Helmick. Junior is also survived by Sisters, Geneva Dumire and husband Walter, Dorothy Cooper and husband Orville, Brothers, Jerry Helmick and wife Kem, Dennis “Denzil” Helmick and wife Nancy, Michael Helmick and wife Linda along with many nieces and nephews.
Proceeding Junior in death was his son, John Helmick, Parents, Clarence and Helen Helmick, Emmy Helmick, Brothers, David Allen Helmick, Leonard Helmick, Roy “Butch” Helmick, Sisters, Patty Rhodes and Deloris “Midge” Poling.
Junior was a 1962 graduate of Parsons High School. After high school Junior was employed by Schulte Ford, Caterpillar Inc, a contractor at Mt. Storm Power Station while a member of the Ironworkers Union, Kingsford Charcoal, R.H. Armstong Inc and Harman Construction while a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 132. During these work assignments Junior helped build the ski slopes of Canaan Valley Resort and Snowshoe Resort (Silver Creek). He also helped with the construction of Jennings Randolph Lake (Bloomington Dam) and many other projects throughout the state.
After the Flood of 1985, he started Helmick Excavating, where he completed countless jobs for people throughout the community over 25 years of his business. During his career he was known for his operating skills on the dozer and backhoe. Junior was also employed as a Bus Driver at Tucker County Schools for 20 years until his retirement. Junior enjoyed his property on Mt. Zion and he enjoyed spending the winter in Florida. He was loved by all that knew him and will be missed by his family and friends. He will be happy to see the many friends and family who have passed away before him when he enters the gates of heaven, especially his son John. Junior was a devoted Christian as he attended the Hambleton Pentecostal Church of God, Parsons Church of God and Rosendorf Pentecostal Church of God.
Visitation was on Saturday May 2 at Hostetler Funeral Home in Parsons from 3pm until 5pm, with the Funeral Service at 5pm, with the Rev. Todd Rhodes officiating. Cremation will be honored. Special thanks to Mountain Memories and ERCC for the great care for Junior the last several years.
