For the first time this season, the Wildcat football team played a game inside their own zip code, welcoming the Bulldogs of Tygarts Valley last Thursday. A heavy rainstorm hit the area just before kickoff, saturating R.H. Armstrong Memorial Field and making conditions less than ideal for the ball game.
Tucker would get the opening kickoff and mount a short, three-play drive when Braxton White would bust loose down the home sideline for a 39-yard touchdown run. Brother Noah White would complete the two-point play, and Tucker had an early 8-0 lead. Neither team would find pay dirt again in the first period, but just before the break, QB Bentley Haddix would throw a 51-yard touchdown bomb to Braxton White. Braxton would also catch the two-point attempt to give the Wildcats a 16-0 advantage at the break.
Neither squad would score in the third period, but Tucker struck early in the fourth as Noah White had a powerful 56-yard run to give the Wildcats 22 points on the evening. The Bulldogs would score late in the fourth when the game was already decided, as they found the end zone from four yards out to make the final score 22-6 in favor of the home-standing Wildcats.
Noah White paced the ground attack with 15 carries for 139 yards and a touchdown. Braxton White had three carries for 46 yards and a touchdown, along with two catches for 88 yards and another touchdown. Quarterback Bentley Haddix tossed for 88 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Tucker’s defense produced several turnovers in the game, with Tristan Pitzer forcing a fumble and recovering another. Easton Wolford also collected a fumble recovery, and Leland Nelson intercepted a Bulldogs pass.
The Wildcats have quite the tall task waiting on them next week as they travel to AAA powerhouse Bridgeport to take on the Indians at Liberty Harrison’s Field. Tucker improves to 3-0 on the season and looks forward to the challenge lying ahead.
