Tucker County’s golf team had a packed week last week. On Monday, they traveled to Moorefield to participate in the Valley View Invitational, an 18-hole match with 15 other teams. Despite being the only Class A team, Tucker had a robust showing, finishing in ninth place and just nine shots behind sixth place. Four of their golfers shot in the 80s, with Nate Davis posting the team’s best round with an 84.
The next day, Tucker returned to The Raven Golf Course at Snowshoe Mountain for the 18-hole PVC Conference Championship. The team faced a challenging course and struggled mentally to find its rhythm. However, they managed to finish third in the event. Senior Nate Davis also had a standout individual performance, finishing second and earning All-Conference honors for the third consecutive season.
To cap off the week, Tucker hosted a home match on Thursday at Canaan Valley Resort. They faced PVC Champion Tygarts Valley, Trinity Christian, and Preston High School. After a tough outing on Tuesday, the team responded with a stellar performance, winning the match by six shots over Tygarts Valley.
Three of their golfers finished in the top 10: Nate Davis shot a low round of 37, Cayden Arnold finished fourth with a 40, and Drew Simmons secured a sixth-place finish with a 44.
The team has another busy week ahead. They’ll travel to Tygart Lake Golf Course on Monday for a nine-hole match. Back at Canaan on Tuesday, they’ll host the inaugural 18-hole Tucker County Invitational. The week will conclude on Thursday at Fisher Mountain in Pendleton County with a head-to-head match-play event.
