The Foundation of Mon General Hospital presented $74,000 in scholarships to 38 area students pursuing degrees in health care fields at its 25th Annual Health Career Scholarship Awards Program on Monday, May 11.
Four of the scholarships were worth $10,000 each for students pursing masters programs, while the other 34 scholarships were worth $1,000 each. The presentation took place in the Hazel Ruby McQuain Conference Center at Mon General.
Three Rachel C. Piribek Scholarships were presented. Recipients include Rachel Sargent of Morgantown, a first-year recipient seeking a degree in Nursing from the West Virginia University; Lydia Ann Wade of Fairview, a first-year recipient seeking a Nursing degree from Alderson Broaddus University; and Emiley Wesolowsky of Morgantown, a first-year recipient seeking a Nursing degree from WVU.
Three George D. Hott Memorial Scholarships were presented. Receiving these were Heidi Dunn of Morgantown, a second-year recipient seeking a Nursing degree from WVU; Bruce Greeley of Smithfield, WV, a second-year recipient seeking a Nursing degree from Fairmont State University; and Sarah Kennedy of Smithfield, PA, a fourth-year recipient pursing a Nursing degree at WVU.
Three John Mathew Gay Brown Family Foundation Scholarships were presented. Receiving these for the fourth year were Kelly Humphreys of Mannington, WV, who is seeking a Pharmacy degree at Fairmont State University, and Bethany Moore of Fairmont, who is pursuing a Pharmacy degree at WVU. Alexandra Harvey of Ohiopyle, PA is a second-year recipient seeking a Nursing degree from Duquesne University.
Two Edward and Norma Jean Skriner Scholarships were presented. Receiving these were third-year recipients Andrew Eddy of Mount Morris, PA and Jessica Ashcraft of Reader, WV. Both are studying Pharmacy at WVU.
Receiving the two Gail W. Cunningham Memorial Scholarships were Matthew Griffin of Flemington, WV, a fourth-year recipient seeking a Nursing degree from Alderson Broaddus University, and Angela Pratt of Morgantown who will be studying Nursing at WVU.
Two Martha Phillips Hupp Scholarships were presented to second-year recipients Meagan Campbell of Clarksburg, who is seeking a Nursing degree from WV Wesleyan, and Marlea Donaldson of Fairmont, who is seeking a Nursing degree from Fairmont State University.
The Glenn and Susan Adrian Scholarship went to April Strahin of Independence, WV, a second-year recipient studying Pharmacy at WVU.
Three Wilma B. Nailler Memorial Scholarships were awarded. Receiving the scholarships were Steven Sponaugle of Parsons, WV, a fourth-year recipient seeking a Nursing degree from Davis & Elkins College; Jessi Conners of Clarksburg, a third-year recipient seeking a Nursing degree from FSU; and Madelyn Harvey of Morgantown, a second-year recipient seeking a Pharmacy degree from WVU.
Three John Michael Pritchard Memorial Scholarships were presented. The recipients were Casey Batt of Morgantown, a third-year recipient studying Nursing at WVU; Amber Trickett of Fairmont, a second-year recipient studying Nursing at FSU; and Kaylee Ritter of Salem, WV, a first-year recipient planning to study Pharmacy at WV Wesleyan.
Two Reta and Paul Gabriel Scholarships were presented. Each of these scholarships was for $10,000. Recipients were Jamie McLaughlin of Morgantown who is attending Duquesne University pursuing a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) and Thomas Snyder of Grafton who is seeking an MSN from California University of Pennsylvania.
One Robert and Sharon Lynch Scholarship was presented. The first-year recipient was Jacob Layton of Smithfield, PA, who is seeking a Pharmacy degree from Waynesburg University.
Eleven Foundation of Mon General scholarships were awarded. These went to Katie Diamond of Smithfield, PA, a fourth-year recipient seeking a Nursing degree at Penn State; Logan Godfrey of Clarksburg, a third-year recipient seeking a Pharmacy degree from WV Wesleyan; Danielle Dawson of Morgantown, a third-year recipient studying Nursing at WVU; Alexcis Barker of Hibbs, PA, a first-year recipient studying Nursing at Waynesburg University; Mariah Bowley of Morgantown, a first-year recipient studying Pharmacy at FSU; Anna Crogan of Kingwood, a first-year recipient seeking a Nursing degree from Wheeling Jesuit University; Robert (Zac) Currence of Morgantown, a first-year recipient seeking a Physician’s Assistant degree from Alderson Broaddus; Karalee Flohr of Fairmont, a first-year recipient seeking a Pharmacy degree from WVU; Amber Howdershelt of Morgantown, a first-year recipient seeking a Nursing degree from FSU; Jeremy Pyles of Kingwood, a first-year recipient seeking a Pharmacy degree from WVU; and Scott Reed of Clarksburg, a first-year recipient seeking a Pharmacy degree from the University of Charleston.
Two Foundation of Mon General Hospital Masters Scholarships, each worth $10,000, were awarded. These went to Amy Guidi of Morgantown, seeking an MSN from California University of Pennsylvania, and Valorie Richardson of Morgantown, seeking a Master of Health Administration from Ohio University.
Selection was based on the application, academic performance and financial need. Each applicant also submitted a letter describing why they selected a specific health career.
The Foundation created the Health Career Scholarship program in 1991 to promote health care careers in fields with projected worker shortages in the Morgantown area. A sub-committee of the Board of Directors of The Foundation selected the recipients.
