Abbie Eakle is the newest student representative for the Tucker County Board of Education.

PARSONS – Abbie Eakle, student representative to the Tucker County Board of Education, served in her role for the first time during Monday’s Tucker County Board of Education meeting. Abbie joins Kaylee Nedrow, a senior from Tucker County High School and Ian Dotson, an eighth-grade student from Tucker Valley Elementary Middle School as the student representatives for the 2015 to 2016 school year.
The trio of student representatives, one from each school in Tucker County, was selected from the Superintendent Advisory Council, in the hopes of bringing issues important to Tucker County students to the board and giving the student body a non-voting voice on the Tucker County Board of Education.
Tucker County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Eddie Campbell welcomed Abbie to the meeting, saying she is a student at Davis Thomas Elementary Middle School.
“I know Abbie will be an excellent student voice, not only for the students at Davis Thomas Elementary Middle School, but for all of the students in Tucker County.
Alicia Lambert, principal of DTEMS, said the students were selected from the school for the Superintendent Advisory County and as student representatives to the BOE.
“We went with a seventh grade student so our representative would not be leaving in just one year,” Lambert said. “Things that went into the selection include grades, involvement in extra-curricular activities, discipline and Abbie was our selection.”
Abbie is a seventh-grade student at DTEMS. She said she is involved in basketball and track. In track she throws discus and runs the mile and 400 races.
“I am going to be tested for the gifted program this year and that is exciting,” Abbie said.
Abbie is the daughter of Shane and Amber Eakle.
“Doing this is very exciting, and I am looking forward to serving as student representative,” Abbie said.
