PARSONS – Because of snow days used in Tucker County, several days will now be used as instructional days. During Monday’s Tucker County Board of Education meeting, Tucker County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Eddie Campbell said Feb. 29, March 24 and May 25 will now be instructional days. Jan. 29 was also used to make up snow days.
“Four days have been missed so far for snow days,” Campbell said. “We are currently using OS days to make them up. We have two more left, and if we use those, we will be looking to pull the days from the back of spring break. The Good Friday holiday is guaranteed to be a day off. If we use the spring break days, we will then begin adding days to the end of the school year.”
Following an executive session of the Board for personnel matters, the board rejected hiring two substitute teachers. Roy Cate and Angelia Davis were listed on Monday’s agenda for consideration as substitute teachers.
Campbell made the recommendation to hire Cate and Davis. During the vote, two board members – Janet Parsons and Judy Fairbanks voted yes for the hire and three voted no – Marvin “Bud” Parsons, Tim Turner and Kevin White – so the motion was denied and the two will not be hired.
Following that vote, BOE members voted unanimously to hire Karen Litton as activities coordinator, Jonathan Hicks as volunteer head softball coach at TVEMS and Janelle Paul as volunteer assistant softball coach at TVEMS.
Also during Monday’s meeting, Board President Janet Preston said the board was submitting a proposal to the School Building Authority for possible roof repairs.
The next regular meeting of the Tucker County Board of Education is slated for 4:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Tucker County Board of Education Office.
