Hunter Education Course

Hunter education classes will be held at Blackwater Falls State Park, main lodge, on Sept. 6 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and on Sept 7 from 1 – 5 p.m. or until complete.

Students must pre – register by calling the DNR at 304-825-6787 or Rob Porter at 304-704-6774. You must attend all hours and all days.

This is a mandatory training for anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1975, prior to purchasing a base hunting license for West Virginia. Students must bring social security number.

The Hunter Education Course is a minimum of 10 hours of instruction with hands-on gun exercises with inoperable firearms and dummy ammo, followed by a final written exam.

Those successfully completing the course will be issued a “Certificate d Completion” card which will be proof of completing the course and will be shown when purchasing a license. Students must have reached their 10th birthday by final exam day to be eligible for a permanent card. This course is recognized in all states and Canadian Providences as well as Mexico.

These classes are offered free and all of the materials are provided.
