The 40th annual Fairview Homecoming celebration was held on June 26, 2016, at the church pavilion on Location Road, St. George. The afternoon was spent with a picnic and visiting followed by a brief business meeting for the care of the two Fairview cemeteries. The group enjoyed reminiscing and looking at pictures from the past 40 years of Homecoming. There were special activities during the day consisting of a corn hole game, hula hoops, bubble blowing, face painting, making balloon animals and other shapes, and chalk drawing.
A moment of silence and prayer was held for the families who have lost loved ones since the meeting last year. President Scott Hebb read those names, which included Lonzo “Bud” Henthorne, 10-16-29 to 07-13-15. Bud faithfully attended and supported the Fairview organization and received the prize for being the oldest man attending in 2008. Also included was a member of our community, Amos Nine, 07-16-40 to 07-29-15; Helen Collins, 05-06-22 to 04-03-16. Helen received the prize for the oldest woman attending in 2010. Scott handed out prizes consisting of hand crocheted “Lord’s Prayer” hanging, made and donated by Marijane Martin, jars of homemade applebutter and souvenirs from Blackwater Falls State Park. The family who traveled the farthest for the Homecoming went to Robert and Robin Hebb from Brevard, NC. The oldest man attending was 91 year old, David Strahin of Montrose.
