Child Abuse Prevention Month

An empowering child abuse prevention training program is being offered locally through your Tucker County Family Resource Center and Randolph-Tucker Child Advocacy Center. The training is called Stewards of Children. It takes only two hours, but in that time, participants gain empowering information to protect our children. This training is for ALL adults in the community and ESPECIALLY for adults who have contact with children.

FinalPFPLogoThis training is a product of Darkness to Light (d2l.org) out of South Carolina. It is Darkness to Light’s mission to confront child sexual abuse with courage. This is the only evidence-based, third party evaluated child sexual abuse prevention available. In 2007, Stewards of Children was awarded the Crime Prevention Program of the year by the National Crime Prevention Council.

This training would benefit all adults, but would be particularly beneficial to teachers, Little League volunteers, youth organization volunteers, church volunteers, parents and grandparents etc. Most of Tucker counties support staff in the schools such as cooks, secretaries, aides, and bus drivers have attended this training. If you would like to know more, ask one of them about the training. Unlike some other trainings that focus on the child (we also provide a training for children called Talk About Touching), Stewards of Children focuses on ADULT training because ultimately, it is adults’ responsibility to keep children safe. Bottom line: Kids should not be saddled with the responsibility to protect themselves from predators. Though the subject matter is undoubtedly intense, Stewards of Children presents the material in a way that is empowering, not fear-focused or depressing.

We invite all adults to attend. There are two sessions scheduled on April 14, 2014 at the Board of Education building. The first session is 12:30pm-2:45pm and the second session is 5pm-7:15pm. This is a value of $10, but the Family Resource Center will cover the cost. Childcare will be available. We are also available if your club, church, or organization would like to schedule a training at your location. Please call to reserve your spot at the scheduled sessions since space is limited or call to schedule a training for your organization at Tucker County Family Resource Center 478-3827.
