Citizens Bank of West Virginia is offering free shredding to area residents during Fall Shred Fest, Friday, September 22 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at their Elkins location, 211 Third Street. The public is invited to bring up to five boxes of paper and one hard drive to shred free of charge.
“It is so important to safely and securely destroy any documents that have personal information with your social security number, financial or health information, and even documents you may have laying around with your name, address, phone, and associated account numbers,” said Kathy Leombruno, Senior Vice President & Marketing Officer. “A mobile shred truck will be set up in front of Citizens Bank throughout Fall Shred Fest. Anyone can take advantage of a no-cost opportunity to destroy any sensitive or confidential documents; this offers great protection against fraud and identity theft.”
Fall Shred Fest will continue rain or shine. There will be food and prizes throughout the three-hour event, including (3) three personal high-security micro-cut paper, CD, and credit card shredders.
Attendees are asked to use the following guidelines for their shred:
Document Destruction
- 5 Boxes Per Person – This is a great opportunity to clean out old files and have sensitive documents securely destroyed.
Hard Drive Destruction
- 1 Hard Drive Per Person
Business Hard Drives
- Contact the Marketing Department at CustomerService@citizenswv.com or call 304-637-2185 if you have excess hard drives that need shredded. We will allow you to have them shredded at our cost.
Acceptable Materials
- All paper products. *Guests do not need to remove: paper clips, staples, rubber bands, or binder clips.

“Fall Shred Fest was created to promote greater awareness of identity theft prevention,” said Leombruno. “Customers and consumers will be able to talk and visit with our employees to learn how they can better safeguard their personal information and be mindful of how they can avoid putting their identity at risk. As bankers, we are fully aware of what can happen when people improperly dispose (or don’t dispose) of sensitive documents. We also have products that can help protect their identity around-the-clock.”
Fall Shred Fest is being held in conjunction with International Declutter Day. The public is invited to donate good condition items to United Way of Randolph County for their upcoming Rummage Sale and Auction scheduled for October 20 & 21. United Way Board members will be onsite to accept donated items. This is a wonderful opportunity to declutter your home, basement, garage or business and donate to a good cause.
