Tucker Boulder Park is scheduled to open Friday, August 25 after a four-year effort to create a free climbing venue for residents and visitors. The public is invited to stop by anytime between 1:00 and 5:00 pm to enjoy opening day festivities.
The 1:00 ribbon cutting will be followed with climbing demonstrations, education, and instruction, music and refreshments. The park is located behind the Davis Ball Field off of Rt. 32, in close proximity to the Corridor H (Rt. 48) exit at 14626 Appalachian Highway.
The Tucker Boulder Park is providing a unique recreational venue in the Potomac Highlands region. After the August 25th opening, the park will be open daily for climbing during daylight hours, closing at dusk. The two boulders feature colorful hand holds placed to make route-finding easy for newcomers.
The park is a collaborative community-based project that is owned and operated by the Town of Davis. Tucker Community Foundation is leading the fundraising effort. The project is funded by Land & Water Conservation Funds, other grant support and private and corporate donations. Western Pocahontas Properties and the Dominion Foundation are also lead partners in the project.
The addition of a third boulder is planned for the park along with a trail connector funded by a WV DOT Recreational Trail grant. Fundraising efforts for the third boulder are underway and visitors to the park are encouraged to feed the donation post featured at the park’s entrance.
