THOMAS, W.Va. – Less than six months after completion of the new Blackwater Short-term Rehabilitation Center, Cortland Acres is renovating existing resident rooms and common areas.
The 94-bed long-term care and skilled nursing facility in Thomas began the second phase of the construction project in August. Cortland Acres Administrator Beth Clevenger said the Board of Directors is committed to providing quality care to residents and enhancing the entire facility.
“Cortland Acres is continuing the neighborhood atmosphere and theme established in the new state-of-the-art rehabilitation center which was completed earlier this year,” she said. “With the second phase of the project we are creating smaller neighborhoods throughout the existing 38-year-old facility by adding two sunrooms and lounges along the corridors. All of our existing resident rooms, which consists of six private and 44 semi-private rooms, will also be renovated.
“We want Cortland Acres to be homelike, inviting and comfortable for the residents. More like a family.”
Cortland Acres is the fourth largest employer in Tucker County. The facility’s renovations will benefit current and future residents and also allows the Thomas facility to continue to provide employment for about 150 full and part-time employees.
Development Director Dan Bucher said the two new sunrooms and lounges are being constructed so that residents can experience and enjoy the natural beauty of the 35-acre campus located in the heart of scenic Tucker County.
“The new renovations will have a great impact on residents’ quality of life and their conveniences,” Bucher said. “The renovations of the existing resident rooms consist of new beds, furniture, flooring, ceiling, lighting fixtures, handrails and fresh paint. Additionally, a new central bath unit is being built in our memory care unit.”
Roberts Estate, Inc. has been engaged for the room renovations and construction of the sunrooms and lounges. The project is expected to be completed by the Spring 2017.
The Cortland Acres campus includes a 94-bed long-term care facility, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation center and programs, rental apartments in Pineview and townhouses in The Pines. For more information call 304-463-4181 or visit www.cortlandacres.org.
