THOMAS. W.Va. – The Rehabilitation Center at Cortland Acres and Garrett County Orthopaedics have partnered to host an informational discussion on Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Injuries.
The discussion will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 in the multipurpose room at the new Blackwater Short-term Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Todd Feathers, an orthopaedic surgeon at Garrett County Orthopaedics, and Alisha McCune, director of the Rehabilitation Center at Cortland Acres, are the featured speakers.
Garrett County Orthopaedics recently opened a satellite office for patients in the Cortland Medical Specialties building on Cortland’s campus near the Rehabilitation Center. The two facilities work closely together.
During the Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Injuries discussion, participants will learn about orthopedic emergencies including open fractures/dislocations, compartment syndrome, septic or infected joints, high pressure injection injuries and Cauda Equina Syndrome. Cauda equina syndrome is a serious condition that describes extreme pressure and swelling of the nerves at the end of the spinal cord.
Additionally, participants will learn about shoulder injuries including rotator cuff tears, labral injuries, bursitis/impingement/tendinitis and shoulder arthritis.
The program is open to anyone and light refreshments will be served. People will be able to ask questions throughout the program.
For information on the program or to RSVP for the program contact Garrett County Orthopaedics, 301-334-1034 or Cortland Acres, 304-463-4191.
