Thomas, WV – Cortland Acres welcomes Cary Sponaugle to its administrative staff as public relations and marketing specialist. The newly created position is responsible for the development and coordination of all aspects of marketing and communications for the Cortland Acres campus.

“As we have grown over the past 40 years, we realized we need to increase our efforts to make sure people in the local community and the region know all that Cortland has to offer,” Administrator Beth Clevenger said. “We’re confident Cary is the ideal person to help communicate Cortland’s capabilities, including long-term care, short-term rehabilitation, apartment and independent living, and medical care on our campus.”

Sponaugle earned a master’s degree in 2012 from West Virginia University in Integrated Marketing Communications. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Mount Vernon College and an associate’s degree in Liberal Arts from Southern Seminary Junior College.

“Cortland Acres has a very positive reputation throughout Tucker and surrounding counties. Their drive to serve the community and provide the best quality care to their residents was a story I just couldn’t pass up,” Sponaugle said. “After all, marketing is all about telling a story … it’s my passion. I can think of no better place for me than with the visionary staff at Cortland.”

Sponaugle began her career in 1988 as an account executive with The Leffler Agency in Baltimore, Md., handling a variety of sports accounts including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Cleveland Browns and later, the Baltimore Ravens. She continued her career in 1996 with the Patuxent Publishing Company in Columbia, Md., until 2009.

Locally, she began teaching part-time at Davis & Elkins College in 2010 as an Adjunct Professor with the Division of Business & Entrepreneurship teaching marketing and management courses. Sponaugle has directed the athletic marketing efforts at Davis & Elkins College and worked briefly at Canaan Valley Resort & Conference Center.

Sponaugle lives on the family farm near Harman with her husband, Micky, and their two dogs, Anna and Molly.

Cortland Acres is a non-profit, privately owned corporation offering state-of-the-art nursing care and skilled rehabilitation on a spacious 35-acre campus is the heart of scenic Tucker County, West Virginia.
