Blackwater Chapter members presented Carroll Precht and daughter Roxanne Miller with the DAR Community Service Award during their September meeting. Regent Cathy Markham Hebb read their nomination letter to the group. Wanting to find a way to give back to the community, the two women decided to serve a free Thanksgiving dinner for the community at the Parsons Senior Center in 2005. Their church helped them obtain what they needed for the dinner. They told us they expected it to be a one-time event. Twenty years later, they were still serving the dinners! The first year, they served 150 meals. Last year, over 600 meals were served, utilizing over 100 volunteers. Both ladies were presented a DAR Community Service Award certificate and pin. Congratulations to Carroll and Roxanne for blessing our community in such a huge way!
