Moorefield, WV – Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College now has a Little Free Library! Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world. Through Little Free Library book exchanges, millions of books are exchanged each year, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds. There are over 100,000 Little Libraries worldwide.

Joe McGee, English Faculty at Eastern, began the initiative with the encouragement from Dr. Terrell, Eastern’s President. Joe is a published author and started his first Little Free Library in his home state of New Jersey as a gift from his wife after a house fire destroyed their family’s apartment and everything in it. Joe and his son painted the Little Free Library and it became a huge success in his neighborhood. After relocating to West Virginia, Joe decided to donate the library to Eastern to provide books for students, employees, and the community. The Little Free Library is now located on Eastern’s Main Campus in Moorefield.

“This is a way to share the love of reading, pass on books, and enjoy the discovery of finding a great new read. I suppose I am the new steward of our Little Library. One of my dream jobs growing up was to be a librarian (next to treasure hunter, race car driver, puppeteer, and stunt man). I encourage anyone to stop and see what’s new and bring books in to add if you’d like,” Joe said. Little Free Library visitors do not have to return books, nor do they need to put one in the library to take a book or two. As library steward, Joe ensures books are updated and rotated, making library visits an exciting adventure.

Eastern’s library is an official, registered library and can be found among the thousands across the country and the world here: https://littlefreelibrary.org/ourmap/
