Five Rivers Library’s 2016 Summer Reading Program kids! Aleyah and Khia Jackson, Rylee White, Brock and Rhys Hovatter, Izabella Lipscomb and Addalyn Browning, Waylon and Zaylie Kisamore, Lynk and Layne Suesli, Isaac, Owen and Connor Roberts, Adrianna and Colton Amie, Colton and Quinton Teter, Braxton and Laila George. We had a total of 26 kids this year. Not pictured were Gage Hovatter, Daniel and Alex Haller, Andrew Amie, Jaylie Ohler and Myles Theimer.

Five Rivers Library’s summer reading program theme this year was “On your mark, get set read” We welcomed the children each week with lots of smiles and enthusiasm.  Those children who brought in their reading logs received a sticker and a prize from the treasure basket.   Each week a book was read to the children and then discussed.  This year’s books were about health and fitness, choosing the right foods to eat, sports and exercise, science in sports. There were games and outdoor activities and snacks each week which coincided with the book theme of the week.  Among a few of the activities and games we did this year were the ice water handwriting game, melting crayons, jumping rope, bowling, ring toss, hula hooping, sack race, side walk chalk,  bubble foam and cloud dough.  Some of the snacks consisted of pizza, chips and dip, grapes, pretzels, cheese sticks, mangos, pepperoni, crackers, grapes, strawberries, smoothies, drinks etc. Wednesday, June 29, was the last day for our summer reading program. As always we enjoyed seeing each child and so enjoyed seeing the smiles on their faces as they enjoyed the activities, games and snacks.    Prizes were given out the last day of summer reading with each child receiving a cup filled with goodies and the top three readers received a bag filled with lots of goodies.  The top three readers were Rhys Hovatter with 50 books, Izabella Lipscomb with 45 books, and Brock Hovatter with 41 books read.  From the reading logs turned in we had a total of 426 books read.  Thanks again to our volunteers, Lindsay, Tyler and Matt Johnson for helping us out, they were great. Thanks to the parents, grandparents, guardians who brought the children to summer reading, we appreciate your time very much.
