The City of Parsons declared September Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Roxanne Miller read the proclamation and met with the City Council Sept. 1. Ovarian cancer is known as the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers because symptoms are often vague and difficult to recognize, often leading to late-stage diagnosis. While early diagnosis can improve outcomes, it is not always possible as currently there are no screening or early detection tests, according to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
The Coalition lists the following ways to get involved this September: participate in Wear Teal Day; make a donation; volunteer; put up teal lights and share inspirational stories.
