The Snow Sports Museum of West Virginia will host a Fundraiser doubleheader on Friday and Saturday November 22 and 23 at Black Bear Resort in Canaan Valley. The two night music extravaganza will feature Ted Garber, well known entertainer in Northern Va. and DC and the son of ’70’s local legend, the Late Holly Garber.

Friday’s performance from 6-9 p.m is limited to 50 patrons who will enjoy an up close and intimate concert in the Lodge at Black Bear with light hors d’ oeuvres, wine and local craft beers included for the $40.00 admission cost. The SSMWV will have a display of memorabelia and discuss preliminary plans for the museum location as well as their progress since becoming incorporated as a 501-c-3 non profit in the Spring of 2018.

Saturday night’s show will be a full performance by Garber featuring his original songs and a lot of nostalgic moments from his Father’s work in the ’70’s & ’80’s. The SSMWV will provide light refreshments and set ups for those wishing to bring their own beverage of choice. The show on Saturday is from 7 – 10 p.m. and is $25 per person. Tickets can be reserved by logging onto snowsportsmuseumwv.org/events/rsvp. There is a limited number of tickets available each night based on available space in the Lodge at Black Bear.

According the Museum President, Kim Williams, “We have held six fundraisers since March of this year including events at WhiteGrass, the Canaan Half Marathon, ChipShots FootGolf, Stumptown, Lost Ball Links and the Tuckers Community Foundation’s Run for It. When board member Cary Reed presented the idea of a Ted Garber concert for our late fall fundraiser we, the Board of Directors, felt that this will be a success. Ted has performed several events in the area and his father Holly Garber was a close lifelong friend of Cary’s going back to high school in the ’60’s in Northern Virginia.”

The SSMWV was established in 2018 to preserve, display and promote the history of Winter recreation in West Virginia and Davis was declared the perfect place for such a Museum. The Ski Club of Washington, DC, (SCWDC) found consistant snow cover at “Driftland” on the western tip of Cabin Mountain in Canaan Valley in the early ’50’s and the beginning of Winter tourism in the South was established.

Williams also noted that “the SSMWV has shown steady positive growth since early 2018 with membership and coorporate sponsorship growing at a solid pace. Since hiring an Executive Director at our August board meeting our fundraising is going well but we’re now aggressively focusing on major corporate grant possibilities. We’re also looking forward to the re-birth of the Winter Carnival established in the Winter of 1955-’56 in Davis by the SCWDC. The partnerships we’re forming for this event include; The Alpine Festival, Canaan Valley Resort, Blackwater Falls State Park and the Tucker County Chamber of Commerce.”
