 STArt 2018 Student Art Show Award Winners

Awards were presented to K – 12 students at the all-county STArt Student Art Show at the Davis Fire Hall, recently.  WVHighlands Artisans Group  presents the exhibition annually of work submitted by students of Davis-Thomas Elementary, Tucker Valley Elementary Middle, and Tucker County High Schools, as well as home-schooled students of the Mountain Laurel Learning Cooperative.


During the all-county STArt Student Art Show on May 6, WVHighlands Artisans Group presented a check for $2,300 to the Tucker County Schools for the use of art materials. Left to right: Betsy Viola, president, WVHighlands Artisans Group; Janet Preston and Tim Turner, Vice President and President, Tucker County Board of Education; art teachers Chelsi Primavero, Davis-Thomas Elementary Middle School; Mary Waters, Tucker County High School; Olivia Snider, Tucker Valley Elementary Middle School; and Bruce Wilson, STArt Board.
Janet Preston and Tim Turner, Vice President and President of the Tucker County Board of Education (rear) expressed the thanks of the schools and the community at large to the WVHighlands Artisans Group and all the volunteers who make their STArt program possible. Accepting those thanks are Bruce and Gerri Wilson (left), STArt Co-Chairs, and Titi and John Ferguson (right),founders of WVHighlands and STArt.
Parsons Mayor Dorothy Judy presents the City of Parsons Award to Sadie Palmer, Tucker County High School, for her mixed media collage, “Self-Portrait,” which also earned her the People’s Choice Third Place Award. This year there were 222 art works by 161 students, judged by Kevin Woodcock, Assistant Professor of Art at Davis and Elkins College in Elkins.  People’s Choice voting, sponsored by Tucker Community Foundation ,opened to the public on Saturda

Each student whose work was on display received a certificate of participation and a miniature art work by Seth Pitt, of the White Room, Creature, and Santangelo in Thomas. County art teachers are: Mary Waters, TCHS; Chelsi Primavero, DTEMS; Olivia Snider, TVEMS; and David Nelson, TCHS Career Development Center.

Grades K-2

  • 1st – Dane Barkley (2/TVEMS) Untitled – Painting  [WVHighlands Artisans Group]
